I await watching Mt. McKinley in an early morning slumber just before dawn breaks. It is around 28F I guess, the water is patched with ice here and there. I had woken early looking to the north seeing clouds pushing towards the mountain range and said a little prayer. I quickly got some breakfast together and ate in a rush. I was excited to see how clear and crisp the air was and knew that if those clouds did not push in I was in for a treat! I packed the gear up and hiked the lakes edge. Wonder Lake, what a beautiful gem to be found at the foot of this magestic scene. I setup my equipment just shy of being in the water, with my camera practically on the ground. Another photographer was there and I struck up a conversation. It was his first time in Alaska. I made the comment that what we were about to witness would be the highlight of his trip.
One of the many wonderful nights I experienced as an Air Traffic Controller in the USAF.
